A Full Table, For Good Reason
Early in my career while working at Channel Seven I was part of a production that welcomed children through Make-A-Wish to spend a day on the set of Home and Away.
It was my first real glimpse of what Make-a-Wish does in a very real and authentic way; offering a child and their family a moment where serious illness isn't the focus.
Make-A-Wish Australia is the only children's charity in the country dedicated solely to wishes. There's no division of focus; every dollar raised goes towards giving a critically ill child an experience that reminds them, even briefly, of what it feels like to just be a kid. Right now, more than 900 children are on their Wish Journey waiting for that moment.
My wife and I have always believed in an open door and a full table, even if our dog Disco and our cat Mowgli try to escape via and eat what's on the table!
If you've been to our place, you'll know we're not comfortable letting anyone leave with an empty stomach. Bake A Wish is really just an extension of that - a chance to put a few of our favourite bakes to good use in support of a charity we care about deeply.
So on Sunday 23 August, anytime that suits, family and friends are welcome to call in for a cuppa, a slice of cake and a gold coin donation. No need for anything formal; come as you are, say hello to the pets and help me raise some funds for a very good cause.
