Waves for Wishes 2024

Hi, I’m Larissa, but most people call me Riss.

I’m a proud mum, wife, ocean lover, and deeply committed to supporting my community. As President of the Make-A-Wish Newcastle-Hunter Volunteer Branch, and also the Treasurer and Grants and Sponsorship Co-ordinator for She and the Sea (a local female board riders club) I am all about empowering women, supporting kids and their families, and giving back. In my spare time, I also love getting creative with clay!

Last year, I combined my passion for the ocean with my love of Christmas to create a fun community event, celebrating life while raising funds for our amazing wish kids. This year, with the incredible support of She and the Sea and Merewether Markets, the event is back and better than ever. A huge thank you to both organizations - your support means the world!

My dream is to grow this event into a much-anticipated local tradition. Last year, we had around 10 surfers, and this year, I’m hoping to see even more of us making Waves for Wishes!

Join me on Saturday, November 30th, at 9 am at Dixon Park, where I’ll be attempting to surf in a Santa suit (wish me luck!) to raise funds for Make-A-Wish. If you’re not up for surfing, you can still join in the fun by indicating your attendance on our Facebook event or by supporting our market stall.

With over 950 families currently on a Wish Journey, including 30 in the Newcastle/Hunter region, your generosity is essential in helping us bring these life-changing wishes to reality. Every Wish Journey is uniquely designed to create a lasting, positive impact, not just on the children, but also their families and communities. Research shows that wishes are a vital complement to medical treatment, offering hope and joy during difficult times.

Your support, whether through surfing, donating, or cheering us on from the sand, means the world to me and to all the wish kids we’re striving to help.
